Femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy of the I 2 2 anion : Characterization of the à 8 2 P g , 1 / 2 excited state

چکیده
A potential energy curve for the Ã8 Pg ,1/2 state of I2 2 is constructed based on femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy of the I2 2 Ã8 Pg ,1/2←X̃ Su1 transition at 780 nm. The experiment is sensitive to the slope of the repulsive potential wall, the well depth, equilibrium bond length, and the long-range attractive portion of the upper state potential. The Ã8 Pg ,1/2 potential is fit to a piecewise potential which is flexible in each of these regions. Simulations of the spectrum using a previously determined Morse potential for the X̃ Su 1 state of I2 2 @J. Chem. Phys. 107, 7613 ~1997!# yields a well depth (De) of 0.01760.010 eV for the Ã8 Pg ,1/2 state with an equilibrium bond length (Re) of 6.260.6 Å. These values differ significantly from previous semiempirical results. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~99!00207-X#

Observation of ultrafast NH3 (Ã) state relaxation dynamics using a combination of time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and photoproduct detection.
The ultrafast excited state relaxation of ammonia is investigated by resonantly exciting specific vibrational modes of the electronically excited NH(3) (Ã) state using three complementary femtosecond (fs) pump-probe techniques: time-resolved photoelectron, ion-yield and photofragment translational spectroscopy. Ammonia can be seen as a prototypical system for studying non-adiabatic dynamics and...

The photodissociation of I2 2 embedded in mass-selected I2 (Ar)n clusters (n56 – 20) was studied using femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy. The Ã8←X̃ transition in the I22 chromophore was excited using a femtosecond pump pulse, and the subsequent dynamics were followed by photodetachment with a femtosecond probe pulse and measurement of the resulting photoelectron spectrum. In all clusters, d...
متن کاملCharacterization of the I2 2 anion ground state using conventional and femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy
The X̃ Su 1 state of the I2 2 anion has been fit to a Morse potential using data from two techniques: conventional and femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy ~FPES!. Conventional photoelectron spectroscopy is used to determine the adiabatic electron affinity of I2 as well as the well depth and equilibrium nuclear geometry of I2 . In the FPES experiment, the pump pulse induces coherent nuclear mo...
متن کاملGround and low-lying excited states of propadienylidene (H2C=C=C:) obtained by negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy.
A joint experimental-theoretical study has been carried out on electronic states of propadienylidene (H(2)CCC), using results from negative-ion photoelectron spectroscopy. In addition to the previously characterized X(1)A(1) electronic state, spectroscopic features are observed that belong to five additional states: the low-lying ã(3)B(1) and b(3)A(2) states, as well as two excited singlets, Ã(...
متن کاملSlow photoelectron velocity-map imaging spectroscopy of the n-methylvinoxide anion.
High resolution photoelectron spectra of the n-methylvinoxide anion and its deuterated isotopologue are obtained by slow electron velocity-map imaging. Transitions between the X̃(1)A' anion ground electronic state and the radical X̃(2)A" and Ã(2)A' states are observed. The major features in the spectra are attributed to transitions involving the lower energy cis conformers of the anion and neutra...
